Check component identity, tape width and the reel identification required by your process. Prepare the approved joining material and any necessary tools.

Prepare the right tools

This depends on the joining system. allSMT Double Splice Tapes are offered for tool-free joining. Splice pliers are available for clip connections, and carrier tape cutters for preparing the ends.

Join the tape ends

Prepare both ends according to the relevant work instruction. Align the transport holes, tape guide and joint so that the feeder can transport the joined tape.

Apply the selected tape or clip connection according to its instructions. Folds, misalignment or an unsuitable joint can affect feeding. Inspect the joint before further transport.

Check the splice

Check alignment, adhesion and the transition through the feeder. On systems with splice detection, verify detection as well. Follow your production approval and traceability requirements.

If feeding is interrupted, record the tape part number, feeder model, carrier material and a photograph of the joint. This helps identify whether selection, application or feeder settings require investigation.

Changing reels during operation requires a suitable, approved process. Splicing does not eliminate every possible cause of machine downtime.
